Description
The Allen-Stevenson School, an all-boys K-8 school in New York City, is seeking a passionate and experienced flute instructor to teach one-on-one lessons to students in Grades 2-8, on a part-time basis, starting September 8th, 2025 with the opportunity to renew. At Allen-Stevenson, boys have the opportunity to learn to play instruments from the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion families in a one-on-one setting with professional performing musicians. These instructors work with students towards studio recitals, instrumental assemblies, and orchestral performances. Currently at Allen-Stevenson, an estimated 180 boys are taking instrumental lessons during the school week and an estimated 100 boys play in ensembles and/or orchestra.
Requirements
Interested candidates must have prior teaching experience, must demonstrate an ability to teach in a one-on-one setting, and be able to maintain a lesson schedule of up to 20 flute students. Lessons will be 30 or 45 minutes in length and are scheduled on a rotating, pull-out basis during the school day. The payroll rate is between $70 and $105 per lesson, based on lesson length. The ability to differentiate instruction and the use of various teaching methods is required. The opportunity to recruit students and grow the studio is available during the school year. Suzuki training is not required but is highly preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or Performance is required, Master’s Degree in Music Education or Performance is preferred.
