The NYSSMA Electronic Music Composition Showcase

The NYSSMA Electronic Music Composition Showcase is a program held each year at the NYSSMA Winter Conference featuring original electronic music compositions composed by New York State students. The showcase compositions are selected from a large pool of works submitted by students of all ages from NYSSMA participating schools. All submitted compositions are evaluated by a panel of adjudicators and the most outstanding are selected for performance at the showcase.

The concept of an electronic music showcase was first proposed by Herbert Deutsch in 1994 and presented to the NYSSMA Technology Committee, chaired at that time by Peter Brasch. Approved by NYSSMA president William Mercer and fully supported by incoming president Richard Rabideau, the first showcase occurred at the 1996 Winter Conference at the Concord Hotel. The showcase has become a popular annual event highlighting the creative abilities of young composers.
