Job Posting: Oyster Bay High School After School High School Director for 7-12 th Grade Fall Drama Are you passionate about theater and working with talented young actors? Oyster Bay High School is seeking a dedicated and experienced After School High School Director to lead our Fall Drama Play program. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and guide a group of students grades 7-12 in creating an outstanding theatrical production. Responsibilities: Collaborate with the drama department and school administration to select an engaging and appropriate play for the Fall Drama production. Develop a rehearsal schedule that accommodates the students\' after-school commitments and ensures adequate time for preparation. Lead auditions, casting talented actors for the various roles in the play, and assigning understudies as needed. Direct and guide the cast in their character development, blocking, and overall performance, fostering a creative and inclusive atmosphere. Conduct regular rehearsals to ensure that actors are prepared, lines are memorized, and blocking is executed effectively. Provide constructive feedback and support to individual actors, helping them improve their performances and develop their skills. Collaborate with the production team, including the stage manager, set designer, costume designer, and lighting designer, to ensure a cohesive and visually impressive production. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages teamwork, respect, and creativity among the cast and crew. Communicate regularly with the District’s Supervisor of Fine & Performing Arts regarding performance dates, and any other pertinent information. Organize and oversee dress rehearsals and performances, ensuring smooth transitions and a high-quality production. Qualifications: Bachelor\'s degree in Theater, Drama, or a related field is preferred. NYS K-12 teaching certification in Theatre or a related field is preferred. Previous experience in directing high school theater productions. In-depth knowledge of theatrical techniques, stagecraft, and directing principles. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse students, staff, and parents. Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate changing circumstances and student needs. Familiarity with script analysis, character development, and blocking techniques. Knowledge of technical aspects of theater, including lighting, sound, and set design, is a plus. Ability to create a safe and inclusive environment for all participants, valuing diversity and promoting equal opportunities.
