Job Posting: Chorus Teacher (Grades 5-8) School: The Allen-Stevenson School Location: New York City Position Type: Part-Time or Full-Time The Allen-Stevenson School, a distinguished K-8 boys’ school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Chorus Teacher to join our vibrant Performing Arts Department. This role offers flexibility as either part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate’s experience and availability. The ideal candidate will be passionate about music education, adept at engaging middle school boys, and eager to collaborate within a dedicated team of performing arts educators. Compensation: $75,000-$100,000 commensurate with employment status, education and experience. About The Allen-Stevenson School Founded in 1883, The Allen-Stevenson School is dedicated to providing the very best Kindergarten through Eighth Grade education for boys. Our distinctive “enlightened traditional” approach educates boys to become scholars and gentlemen. We believe that there are many ways to be a boy and offer an ongoing commitment to each student, using the best insights and tools available to understand him as a whole person. Responsibilities Lead Three Choruses: 3rd-4th Grade Chorus 5th-6th Grade Chorus 7th-8th Grade Chorus Teach select music classes Plan and conduct rehearsals, fostering vocal development and an appreciation for choral music. Select, arrange, and prepare repertoire for school concerts, assemblies, and special events. Collaborate with the Theater Director on an annual musical production for grades 5-8, contributing to vocal coaching, musical preparation, and overall performance success. Work with the Performing Arts Department—including the Theater Director, Orchestra Teacher, Lower Division Music Teacher, and a team of part-time instrumental instructors—to develop a cohesive and engaging music program. Foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaging environment that encourages boys to explore and enjoy music. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Previous experience teaching choral music to middle school-aged students, preferably in an independent school setting. Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy and choral repertoire suitable for boys’ voices. Proficiency in piano accompaniment. Collaborative spirit and enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented department. Experience in musical theater or working on school productions. A commitment to fostering creativity, confidence, and a love of music in boys of varying skill levels. Why Join Us?
