Position Summary We are currently seeking a full time Music Teacher with a strong background in percussion to teach middle and upper school students beginning September 1, 2024. This teacher will instruct students in the art and technique of playing all percussion instruments including drum set, mallet instruments, hand percussion and drums to prepare them for concerts and various performances where they are showcased. The hiring range for this position is $68,212-$161,914 (subject to union negotiations). Responsibilities Specific responsibilities of the Percussion Teacher will include: ● Directing and teaching three middle school percussion ensembles and four high school percussion ensembles; ● Providing and training percussionists for middle school concert band and jazz ensemble; ● Creating arrangements for percussion ensembles; ● Motivating and encourages students to have a love for the arts; ● Developing lesson plans and practice schedules that allow time for both individual and ensemble development; ● Participating in department curriculum development, meetings and activities; ● Creating, assigning and grading various student assignments or tests to help evaluate students progress; ● Communicating effectively with colleagues, families and students; ● Organizing and conducting two percussion concerts per year, participating in four assemblies and co-lead two middle school band concerts per year in addition to other performances as needed; ● Perform other related projects and duties as assigned. Position requirements The successful incumbent will possess: ● A bachelor’s degree in music, masters preferred; ● At least three years of previous percussion teaching experience with middle and high school aged students is a must; ● Thorough knowledge of and experience teaching all percussion instruments is a must; ● Knowledge and experience teaching a wide range of styles including jazz, current pop styles and traditional concert band; ● Excellent organizational and communication skills; ● The ability to manage and direct large groups of students while also making it a positive fun environment conducive to learning; ● Ability to transcribe and arrange music for percussion ensembles; ● Proficiency with the use of technology, including music notation software such as Sibelius and Finale and online assessment software such as Google Classroom; ● Respect and appreciation for diversity in all of its forms; ● The ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback.
